ACCESSIBILITY

[ COMPLIANCE LEVEL: WCAG 2.1 AA ]

Dedicated to an inclusive digital experience for all Tigers.

Last Updated: March 2026

1. Our Commitment

The Jones High School Historical Society, Inc. is deeply committed to ensuring our digital archive and online presence are accessible to everyone, including individuals with visual, hearing, cognitive, and motor disabilities. We believe that preserving our legacy is only successful when the history is barrier-free.

2. Standards Applied

We actively monitor and audit our website to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. Key accessibility features include:

  • Keyboard Navigation: All primary interactive elements can be accessed using only a keyboard.
  • Contrast Ratios: Text and background color combinations meet strict minimum contrast requirements for readability.
  • Screen Reader Optimization: We utilize semantic HTML, descriptive link texts, and ARIA labels.
  • Scalable Text: Our site is designed to be zoomed up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Alternative Text: Informative images contain descriptive alt-text for screen readers.

3. Archival Limitations & Third-Party Content

As a historical archive, our website hosts scanned vintage documents, decades-old photographs, handwritten letters, and legacy video footage. Due to the age and nature of these physical artifacts, it is not always technologically possible to make them fully compatible with modern assistive technologies (e.g., optical character recognition on degraded handwritten text).

Additionally, we utilize third-party plugins (such as YouTube for video playback and Donorbox for charitable contributions). While we select our partners carefully, we cannot guarantee the accessibility standards of these external platforms.

4. Requesting Alternative Formats

If you need assistance accessing a specific historical document, yearbook scan, or piece of media on this website, the Society is here to help. We are happy to provide transcriptions, alternative formats, or verbal descriptions of artifacts upon request.

Feedback & Support

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of JonesHigh.org. If you encounter any barriers, please contact our support team. We aim to respond to all accessibility inquiries within 2 to 3 business days.
